Yerevan, capital of Armenia. It is situated on the Hrazdan River and archaeological evidence dates settlement of the site as early as the 6th millennium BCE. The rapid growth of the city in the 20th century was due to industrial development and to the hydroelectric plants on the Hrazdan.
